1. Scope of This Policy

This Refund Policy applies to all flight bookings and flight-inclusive arrangements made through Affordable Airfares UK via our licensed ATOL supplier partners.

Affordable Airfares UK acts as an intermediary between customers and our supplier partners. Refund terms are ultimately governed by the airline and/or ATOL supplier partner for each booking, in accordance with applicable consumer protection law — including the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 and the Civil Aviation Authority's ATOL regulations.

This policy does not limit any statutory rights you have under UK consumer law.

2. Enquiry vs Booking

Submitting a flight enquiry through our website carries no financial commitment. The enquiry form is free to use and does not constitute a booking.

  • Enquiries do not require payment and therefore no refund applies to enquiries.
  • This Refund Policy applies only once a booking has been confirmed in writing and payment (deposit or full amount) has been received.
  • A booking is confirmed when you have received written confirmation and, where applicable, an ATOL Certificate from our supplier partner.

3. Cancellation by You

If you wish to cancel a confirmed booking, contact us as soon as possible. Cancellation fees are set by the airline and/or ATOL supplier partner for each booking and typically increase the closer to departure the cancellation is made.

  • More than 12 weeks before departure: Deposit may be retained to cover administration and supplier cancellation costs. Full amount may be refunded less any non-recoverable costs, depending on the fare rules.
  • 6–12 weeks before departure: A cancellation fee is typically charged. The amount will depend on the airline's fare rules for your specific booking.
  • Within 6 weeks of departure: Higher cancellation charges apply. Some fares may be fully non-refundable at this point.
  • Non-refundable promotional fares: Some discounted fares are non-refundable from the point of booking. This will be communicated to you in writing before you make payment.

4. Cancellation by the Airline or Supplier

If the airline or our ATOL supplier partner cancels your flight or travel arrangement, your rights depend on the nature of the cancellation:

  • Airline cancellation: Under EC Regulation 261/2004 (as retained in UK law), if your flight is cancelled by the airline, you are entitled to a choice of a full refund of the ticket price or re-routing to your destination on the earliest available flight.
  • Significant alterations to your booking: If the airline makes a significant change (e.g., change of airport, change of departure time of more than 5 hours), you are entitled to a full refund or an alternative travel arrangement.
  • Supplier insolvency: If the ATOL supplier partner becomes insolvent, your booking is protected by ATOL (see Section 6 below).

We will contact you promptly if we become aware of any cancellation or significant change that affects your booking and will assist you in obtaining a refund or suitable alternative.

5. Package Travel Regulations 2018

Where your booking qualifies as a package holiday under the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 (as arranged through our ATOL supplier partners), you benefit from enhanced legal protections:

  • Right to cancel without charge: If unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances occur at or near your destination — such as significant conflict, serious health risks, or natural disasters — you have the right to cancel your package without paying a cancellation fee.
  • Full refund if organiser cancels: If the package organiser (our ATOL supplier partner) cancels your package for any reason, you are entitled to a full refund of all payments made.
  • Price change protection: The price of your package can only be increased in limited circumstances defined by the Regulations. If the price increase exceeds 8%, you have the right to cancel and receive a full refund.
  • Significant changes: If the organiser makes a significant change to your package, you have the right to accept the change, accept an alternative package, or cancel and receive a full refund.

Whether your specific booking qualifies as a package will be confirmed in writing before payment. We will provide a Pre-Contract Information sheet if package protections apply.

6. ATOL Financial Protection

Flights and flight-inclusive holidays booked through Affordable Airfares UK are financially protected via our licensed ATOL supplier partners.

Where ATOL protection applies to your booking, you will receive an ATOL Certificate from the relevant ATOL holder. This means:

  • If you are yet to travel and the ATOL holder becomes insolvent, the ATOL scheme will refund the money you paid for your booking.
  • If you are abroad and the ATOL holder becomes insolvent, the ATOL scheme will arrange for you to continue your holiday and return home.

Not all bookings qualify for ATOL protection (e.g. some standalone flight-only bookings). We will clearly confirm whether ATOL protection applies to your booking before you pay.

7. Refund Process

Please include your booking reference number and the reason for requesting a refund. We will:

  1. Acknowledge your request within 2 business days.
  2. Confirm the refund amount and any applicable deductions in writing.
  3. Process approved refunds within 14 days of written confirmation of the refund amount.

Refunds are returned to the original payment method. Bank transfer refunds may take 3–5 additional working days to appear in your account.

8. Non-Refundable Fares

Some flight fares are non-refundable from the point of booking. Before you pay for any booking, we will clearly confirm in writing whether the fare is:

  • Fully refundable — subject to standard cancellation charges
  • Partially refundable — taxes and surcharges refunded, base fare retained
  • Non-refundable — no refund available (but taxes may still be recoverable)

Even for non-refundable fares, you may be entitled to a refund of certain taxes and fees from the airline. We will help you claim these where possible.

We will never proceed with a booking on a non-refundable fare without your explicit written agreement to the fare conditions.

9. Complaints

  • The relevant Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) scheme for your booking's ATOL supplier partner.
  • Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for ATOL-related complaints — caa.co.uk
